tiny aquarium is very simple idle game you dont need to play to make progress constantly just need to check in every day or while (but the more you log in to feed your fish the faster youll level up and progress) your fish can die if you dont go on for a while but if you dont feel like checking in for a while you can just click “freeze tank” and you dont even have to worry about it. you can also just have your aquarium sit to the side of your screen kinda like a desktop pet while youre doing whatever you do
in tiny aquarium, you collect fish by hatching them from eggs, fishing for them, or buying them from other peoples aquariums. while you do that you will slowly discover every fish in the fishdex and soon even the uniquely coloured versions of the fish kind of like the shiny versions of pokemon. there are more then fish in tiny aquarium despite what you might assume. there are; axolotls, snails, sharks, seals, frogs, crabs, dolphins and theyre still adding more of just whatever kind of water living animal.
so why do i like it? i think its a relaxing game to play in your free time or if you just have a spare couple of minutes and dont want to get into a heavy game. the screensaver mode is also nice to use when im not using my computer. i love the aesthetics of this game as well, the low poly models make every fish look much more appealing and cuter than they do in real life. the achievements are all through steam but theyre very reasonable and not too difficult to get. another thing i absolutely love about this game is the sound design in it, everything sounds so good the sponge and the menu buttons are all satisfying to click.
the fishing minigame is very obviously inspired by stardew valley and there is nothing wrong with that but it does get very boring for me very fast because its just not very entertaining but if you like fishing in video games you wont mind it too much. the game doesnt give you everything at the start and does lock things like the more expensive market and certain tank decorations behind levels which can be annoying if you have to grind for it but at the same time it gives you a reason tocome back and want to play more so you can unlock the things you want. if you like fish you may as well check this game out.
this game is still being updated and while it does have a lot of content now im really looking forward to anything else they do add or any future events they hold because i think there is so much that could be done with this concept. tiny aquarium has made me love fishing and learning about all the fish in the world, ive even started going to aquariums in real life for fun because of this game alone.
